Automation and Factory Games Database FAQ
What are Automation and Factory games?
They are a type of strategy or simulation game in which you typically control an avatar who then builds assembly lines, factories, automation, etc. in order to progress through the game. Building out of automation is usually required in these games to complete them in a meaningful amount of time.
I see <insert game> is missing, why isn’t it on the list?
Typically a game is missing because either we don’t know about it or it’s primary focus is usually another genre and only has very minor automation or factory elements to it. Games like Railgrade or Sweet Transit are more City/Colony Builders and train games than true Automation and Factory games. We may add a second database for games closely related, but more on that in the future.
What the heck is the difference between 2.5D, 3D, God view 3d, etc…..???
2.5D means it’s a 3D game, but you can’t rotate, tilt, or change the view, it essentially is static. The most control the player has is zooming in or out.
3D can come in a variety of flavor. First Person 3D is controlling the in-game character through the eyes of the character. Third Person 3D is controlling the in-game character, and it’s fixed in view, but you can zoom, tilt, rotate all around the person, but the character is always the center of focus.
God view 3D is essentially no character is central to the view, you are free to fly, float, tilt, zoom, rotate, flip, go in basically any direction, usually queuing up tasks that some form of robots or other characters execute on your behalf.
Why aren’t you calling out Early Access (EA) games?
More and more developers are releasing games to Early Access, whether they are in an Alpha state or just a way of managing releases of the game. The lines have really blurred between EA and releasing a game, with more larger AAA titles actually being released and not using the EA process, while more Indie titles and smaller are ways to get the game out, even if early, but start generating revenue. In our opinion, EA is just a release mechanism for smaller companies, so EA versus full release usually is semantics at that point. Some games have been in EA for half a decade.
Can I get a discount on these games?
Only if the developers provide us with a code we can pass onto the community. These are awesome games, don’t feel bad if you pay full price (we did for the majority of them) as you are supporting awesome human beings who are making fantastic games. You don’t always need a discount to buy something. Most of them (except Factorio, which never goes on sale) will go on sale at some point, so you can always wishlist them and keep an eye out for if they go on sale.
Why are all these games on Steam? I prefer Epic/GOG/something else..?
Steam is mainly what we use. Simple as that. We do have games on Epic and GOG as well, we just have most of ours on Steam, so that’s the link that gets posted. Not all games are released on all platforms either so to keep it simple and not overload the page, we kept it to just them for now. If it’s only released on another platform we’ll be sure the proper link is included.
